How to save time on your searches with Sputtr

Written on July 27, 2007 – 12:49 am | by Jim Stroud |

Stumbled across this new site called “Sputtr” and although I have seen similar sites, I can say that none are as pretty. This is what it looks like.

And this is how it works…

1. First you register for an account (free), then click the “Customize This Page” link above the Search box (as show below).

2. This will put the page in edit mode.

At this point, you click the “X” above the icon of the Searchengine (or website) you want featured on your homepage, or the hand icon (just above the icon to the left of the “X”). Clicking the X will delete that icon, while clicking the hand will allow you to re-position that icon on your page.

3. On the “Add Buttons” form located beneath the searchbox is a drop-down menu.

4. Load the website you want added to your homepage and then click the “Add to Page” button. Once you have added all of your desired buttons, click the “Save Page” button (located to the right of the “Add to Page” button) to preserve all of your edits.

5. Enter in your search terms! For this demo I add in:

intitle:resume “registered civil engineer” -jobs

And then I click the Live Search icon (see arrow).

6. Voila! I go right to my search results. Quick, easy and a handy tool for your sourcing needs.

Recommendation: A very honorable mention. I will keep an eye on these guys to see how they improve on this going forward. Hmmm… perhaps a way to save the searches I implement and a RSS feed on new results as they hit the web? Just a thought.

    Hi Jim

Nice post again, but I just wanted the excuse to say that having read you blogging posts for probably over a year now, and in my humble opinion your blog must be the No1 recruitment blog.
